OBD-II diagnostics for Android

CarScope

CarScope reads your car through a small OBD-II adapter and shows what its control units report. Its results show what was read — and what was not.

What you need

  • An OBD-II adapter

An ELM327-type adapter with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or USB. It plugs into the car and talks to your phone.

  • The OBD port

Usually under the dashboard on the driver's side, near the steering column. Your car's manual shows where.

  • Ignition on

Turn the ignition on. The engine can stay off.

No adapter yet? Demo mode lets you try CarScope with a virtual car first.

Included free

Diagnosis, safety information and your own data are never behind a paywall.

  • Guided connection

CarScope guides you through connecting your adapter and helps you recover when a connection fails. You can choose a connection profile for your car's brand.

  • Fault check

Reads stored, pending and permanent fault codes and, where the car provides it, the manufacturer fault memory. An all-module scan lists every control unit that answers.

  • What was checked

Shows which control units answered and which functions were checked, so a short list of codes is never mistaken for a full vehicle assessment.

  • Readiness, freeze frame, ECU information

Emission readiness monitors, the data stored when a fault was set, and the identity details your control units report.

  • Live data and dashboard

Live values with graphs, and a dashboard with up to 6 gauges. Record up to 5 minutes with marks and replay, and share recordings as CSV.

  • Issues and compare

Follow a problem over time with notes, compare before and after, and share a redacted issue report.

  • Vehicle check

One read-only check for a car you are buying or just bought: faults, readiness, mileage and battery. It shows what the car reports; it can't prove the mileage is genuine.

  • Garage and trips

Keep two vehicles and your last five trips. Trip routes are stored on your phone only.

CarScope Pro

One purchase. Yours to keep. No subscription, no ads.

  • More dashboards

Up to 6 dashboard sets with up to 8 gauges each.

  • Full trip history

Every recorded trip, driving log export and statistics.

  • PDF reports

Fault check and Vehicle check reports as PDF. Copying the text stays free.

  • Unlimited vehicles

    Every car in your garage.

  • Long recordings

Record for longer than 5 minutes and compare two values in one chart.

  • Performance tests

Acceleration runs and the results of your car's emission self-tests.

Brand packs are sold separately and are not included in Pro. Prices are shown in Google Play.

Brand packs

An optional one-time add-on for one car brand, sold separately and not included in Pro. Depending on the brand, a pack adds manufacturer fault descriptions, live values or module names. Each pack's description in the app and in Google Play lists what it contains.

  • One purchase covers all your cars of that brand.
  • One download for the brand; afterwards it works offline.
  • No VIN is sent: the pack is matched to the car you picked.

Vehicle Reports

A clear PDF to keep or share, paid per report with report credits. Reports are made on your phone from your saved checks. Nothing is uploaded.

  • Used-car report

All modules, readiness, mileage check, battery and fault codes.

  • Emissions test (AU) readiness

Is the car ready for the OBD part of the emissions test (AU)? Monitors, pending and permanent codes.

Every row shows whether it was read. What was not read is marked “Not available”.

Good to know

  • Read-only. CarScope reads your car. It does not clear fault codes or change anything in the car.
  • Information, not a verdict. Readings are information about your car, not a repair guarantee or a safety inspection.
  • Depends on your car. Checks cover the requested functions and the control units that answer. What a car reports differs by make, model and year.
  • Android. CarScope is an Android app.
  • Safety. Set CarScope up when parked and don't operate your phone while driving.

Privacy

  • No account. CarScope does not ask for your name or e-mail address.
  • Your VIN, fault codes, live readings, reports, trips and routes stay on your phone unless you share them.
  • No advertising, analytics or crash-reporting services.
  • Our server is contacted only when you buy a brand pack or report credits, and then receives anonymous purchase and installation identifiers, never vehicle data.
